What IngramSpark Publishing Actually Buys You

IngramSpark publishing puts a paperback or hardcover into the Ingram Book Company catalog — the same wholesale supply route that Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Waterstones, Blackwell’s, and roughly 40,000 independent bookstores order from every week. Ingram pays the author 45% of the list price minus the print cost, after the wholesale discount you set (40% standard for trade, 55% if you want bricks-and-mortar buyers to actually stock it) and an optional returns allowance. KDP Print can’t do this; KDP’s “Expanded Distribution” routes through Ingram anyway, at a worse royalty and with no returns flag, which is why most retailers refuse it. The Returns & Discount Model Retailers Require

Bookstores order on consignment-style terms. If you don’t enable returns, your title is invisible to buyers running Edelweiss or Ingram ipage searches with the “returnable” filter on. The 55% discount + returnable combination is the price of being shelvable; we set both correctly at upload and walk through the royalty math on your specific trim, page count, and list price before you commit.

ISBN Ownership & Imprint Control

You bring your own ISBN (or buy one from Bowker), so the imprint on the copyright page is yours, not “Independently Published” the way KDP forces. That ISBN follows the book into Ingram’s feed to OverDrive, Baker & Taylor, Follett, and the OCLC library catalog — the database every academic and public library in North America buys from.

Print Quality & Format Range

IngramSpark gives you cloth hardcover with dust jacket, foil stamping, and premium color stock for cookbooks and illustrated books — formats KDP doesn’t print.
